"I printed all of my father's WWII/Italy images in my darkroom
here in Los Angeles from the actual negatives that my sister found in a box
after he died. He was a pilot, and while flying and while not flying, he
always had his Leica screw-mount camera and lenses in his possession in order
to capture images of life around him. This was never on behalf of the
military; instead, it was because he became fascinated with all aspects of
photography before he went into the military. His only images on my Flickr
site that were done while working directly for the U.S. Government are the
Mount Rushmore ones, captured before he went into the military. He taught me
how to us a light meter, process black and white film, and make black and
white prints in his darkroom when I was in my first several teenage years,
and I have had the same fascination all my life, too. His Leica images
mesmerized me so much, I later on in life acquired my own Leica equipment.
Leica's lenses are out of this world! My darkroom, measuring 8x6 feet, is in
my garage and I love developing film and making prints in it nearly every
week. I will always be thankful for my father instilling in me the vast joys
of photography! "
